President Barack Obama hosted his first news conference since last week’s sadly historic election. He fielded questions on everything from Trump and the election to overseas conflict and America’s future.

The President said he and his team are working to move forward for a peaceful transition and hopes that American does so, as well. “The people have spoken, Donald Trump will be the next president,” he said. “Hopefully it’s a reminder that elections matter. He applauded Trumps efforts,  noting that he was “able to tap into the anxieties and enthusiasm of his voters in a way that was impressive.” However, the President does not believe Trump would keep many of his campaign promises.

“This office has a way of waking you up. Those aspects of positions or pre-dispositions, that don’t match up with reality, he will find shaken up pretty quick because reality has a way of asserting itself.”

He also threw some shade Hillary Clinton’s way, saying he won the state of Vermont not because it was a blue state, but because he was on the ground in every town, state fare and fish fry.
