Missy Elliott dropped a new video for her single I’m Better featuring Lamb (who? is my age showing?) and I’m stuck on repeat. I don’t know how I missed this release last week, but five million streams in, I’m glad I happened upon it. The ever-eclectic artist did not disappoint with the sonic and visual landscape for her first offering since her 2015 WTF single with Pharell.
Missy effortlessly delivers a trap-infused sound with her signature flow that will have you chair dancing and inspire you to up your bouncing ball workout game. In classic form, the choreography simultaneously old school and futuristic, with a mix of club footwork, swim choreography (yes) and gravity-defying movements achieved while wrapped in aerial fabric.
If you are a hair aficionado like myself, you will definitely be captivated by the hair changes. She goes from a flawless fringed bob cut and pastel pink pixie to a feathered, micro crimped bob and peacock teal ‘do. What?! If you pay attention to the dancers’ in silhouette, you’ll peep a sky-scraping look that might as well have been fashioned after the Tower of Pisa. And, let’s not forget about the magical covering (gloss, tape or something) over her matte lippie that perfectly captures the dancing lights. Even if you’re not into makeup, you’ll still be wowed by the artistry.
Honestly, I love how Missy appeases my ADD while proving that she is still better than most!

She cracked the code for females in the business and then she broke the mold ‘cause there’s never been another Missy Elliott.”
